Had an interesting idea pop into my head today.
I have a few pieces of furniture that I wanted to donate to the Salvation Army (SA) and to other local charities. Although SA offers a truck pickup service for large items, the wait to get a pickup date scheduled can run up to 3-4 weeks sometimes.
On the other hand, I am willing to do the leg work of loading the furniture up into a truck or SUV, if I had ready access to one.
The best solution is to have a community truck rental by the hour. In fact, the Home Depot provides rent-by-the-hour trucks at $19.99 for 75 minutes of use. What would be really interesting is if the Home Depot provided free or discounted use of their trucks if they’re used to haul large item donations to a local non-profit, such as Goodwill, SA, or others.
It’s a monetary/donation win for the charity, it’s a Public Relations win for Home Depot, and it’s one less barrier for the consumer to get into the habit of recycling.
What do you think about this idea? Feasible or just plain crazy? Sound off below.
